Benefits of Shopping Locally

Being a family run business since 1990 we know what it takes to last. You have got to be fresh, up to date, honest and reliable. More so, you have to know your product and offer value for money.

We are always looking for ideas to create a unique floor to suit the client’s needs. We do sell the everyday products but we go further to offer genuine and bespoke advice on what floors will do the job for you.

All of July is Independent Retailer Month and as an independent retailer ourselves, we take utmost pride in supporting other local businesses. In this post, we will be talking about the benefits of shopping locally and why you should support your local businesses.

Boosting Local Economy

Shopping at local businesses enhances the economy of your community, rather than spending your money with big chain brands. Shop owners at local businesses are members of your own community and will therefore circulate the money locally and help your community thrive.

Building Local Community

Local cafes, craft shops and independent bookstores often host events such as knitting clubs and book discussions to boost sales. These events encourage social interaction within the local community that in turn increases community spirit. Supporting local businesses helps you support your friends and neighbours as well, as the shop owners are members of the community themselves!

More Local Jobs

Supporting your local businesses also helps create more jobs in the community, and furthermore, small independent retailers are more likely to provide better wages and benefits for their workers.

Support British Entrepreneurs

Innovators and entrepreneurs rely heavily on the support of the local community to kick start the growth of their businesses. Buying from your local businesses could result in the next Richard Branson!

All About the Experience

Shopping at the local high street is a much more enjoyable experience compared to massive shopping centres which can be overwhelming. Shopping locally is also a very sociable experience as you can interact with the employees as well as the local community, as there is a high chance of bumping into friends and family.

Service is Everything

For local business owners, their business is their livelihood and they are passionate about what they do. Therefore they provide a much better quality of service and make more effort to offer a bespoke service. Independent retailers have the flexibility to reward regular custom, meaning you can get discounts on items you actually want to buy, as opposed to bulk buy offers in the big chains. Once you get to know your independent trader they will also be able to recommend products to you.

Ethical

Small independent businesses source their produce locally and tend to use less packaging than large chains. This reduces levels of pollution because they require less transportation costs and the minimal packaging leads to far less waste. Local businesses are predominantly within walking distance unlike large shopping centres. The reduced car use helps to reduce air pollution and create cleaner communities.

Giving Back

Local businesses are often much more generous with regards to giving back to their own community and supporting local causes. Local shop owners live in the local area and are therefore just as interested in helping the community thrive as you are!

Bespoke

Local high streets are home to those amazingly diverse and quirky independent retailers that stock the unique products that you just can’t find anywhere else. Local shops also support local artists and designers, food producers and growers, so you’re buying products absolutely unique to your area.

Small and independent businesses are at the heart of our communities and it’s now more important than ever for the community to get behind them and show our support. With this post we invite you today to be a bit more mindful about where you are shopping from. Think about investing in your local businesses, you won’t regret it.
