Decluttering and organising a home properly doesn’t have to be a mammoth task, writer Whitson Gordon advises.

Writing for, he suggested homeowners go through a clutter “purge”; ridding their house of anything they simply don’t need any more. Doing this will make re-organising the belongings that need to be kept a lot easier.

“Now that you’ve gotten rid of the crap, it’s time to organise the stuff you have left to make it more useful to you during your day,” Gordon suggested. “Go through all your leftover stuff and make sure each item has a home.”

He went on to recommend homeowners be ruthless, adding: “If you aren’t sure where to put something, don’t waste time on it.”

The other important thing for homeowners to remember is that they don’t have to end up with a perfect home. It’s just about organising everything well enough that the laminate flooring can be seen again and that they aren’t tripping up on unnecessary clutter. After getting everything in its place, the time will come for a full house clean.

The tough part is keeping the house clean and organised, Gordon admitted, before adding that it only takes a few minutes each day. “Once you’ve worked it into your daily routine, it’ll be so easy to keep up you won’t even notice you’re doing it,” he concluded, also cited by
